If a toilet won’t stop running, follow these troubleshooting steps to identify and fix the issue:
1. Check the Flapper
Lift the toilet tank lid and check if the rubber flapper at the bottom is sealing properly.
If it’s stuck open, push it down to see if the running stops.
If the flapper is worn, cracked, or not sealing well, have your DM submit a ticket to replace it.
2. Adjust the Chain
If the chain connecting the flush handle to the flapper is too long, it may get tangled.
If it’s too short, it may prevent the flapper from sealing properly.
Adjust the chain.
3. Inspect the Float
If the float is too high, water will continuously flow into the overflow tube.
Adjust the float height by bending the metal arm slightly or turning the screw (for plastic arms) to lower the water level.
4. Check the Fill Valve
If the fill valve is malfunctioning, it may not shut off properly.
Lift the float arm manually—if the water keeps running, the fill valve may need cleaning or replacement. Have your DM submit a ticket to have it looked at.
5. Inspect the Overflow Tube
If the water level is too high and overflowing into the tube, adjust the float to lower the water level.
If the tube is cracked or broken, it may need to be replaced. Have your DM submit a ticket to replace it.
